We are 233 days into
the year, 132 days until next year. Sort
of strange to think about how fast things move.
Wilton
Norman Chamberlain (8/21/1936-10/12/1999)
Has there ever been a more impactful player? Before the three point change it was the
world of the big men and this guy was the penultiment player. Consider he was not allowed to play in the
NBA until he was 23 consider what a monster he might have become had he played
those additional years. LeBron is a
monster, but remember he played when he was 18 if you remove his first 5 years
of playing….not nearly as impressive.
Job
Creation Numbers
Just out, the US created 500,000
fewer jobs since 2018 than was reported.
Makes me suspect of Bureau of Labor Statistics. I am sure no one is surprised that Alexander
Acosta had the BLS use the optimistic instead of the middle numbers as usually
done. How great Pizzella will be is to
be determined. If he comes out and owns
this “error”, then maybe.
Betsy
DeVos
As one of the most unqualified
people to ever hold a government job.
She again is pushing the “Education Freedom Scholarships” trying to move
money from Public schools to private for profit schools. The poll she cites is strongly biased, if you
read the questions and the order asked it is obvious the poll was constructed
to extract the best possible outcome. Every serious study continues to show the
charter schools cost more per pupil and have average at best results. This woman continues to deconstruct the
Department of Education. Defund the
public school system. Defend predatory student loan programs (She has a vested
interest). I continue to feel she may be
the most unqualified person to every hold a job this powerful. It will take years if not decades to repair
the damage being done every day in DOE.
Politics
The president continues to attack anyone
who criticizes him. While acting like a
petulant child when someone denies him his toy.
The response to the Danish prime minister when told Greenland was not
for sale, “I thought that the prime's statement that it was absurd, that
it was an absurd idea was nasty”. He then went on to state in the imperial third
person “She's not talking to me. She's talking to the United States
of America. You don't talk to the United States that way, at least under me.” What the heck was he thinking? You don’t treat other nations and their
leaders with that level of disrespect.
Damage to US Danish relationship.
Damage to NATO. Damage to US EU
relationship. I expect a pursing of the
lips and kissing of Putin, Kim Jong-un, or Jinping. I can hear the words now of a lovely
conversation or letter. How great their
relationship has become etc.…ad nausea.
The
Sum Up
Oil is moving around $56 again. WTI is around $56 and BC is around
$60. My feeling is it continue to trade
in the 50-60 dollar range for the near term.
My little girl started her last year
at Auburn this week. Very excited to see
how it goes. My son is at KU and will
start his sophomore year on Monday. Both
have full schedules taking 16 and 15 hours respectively. My little girl is working part time and my
son appears to be pondering that same thing.
We continue to prepare for my MIL to
move to a retirement community. Her unit
will be ready on October 15th of 2019. It seems a long time to rehab a unit, but it
is best that it be done correctly. She
continues to downsize her 3,800 square foot home to fit in the 800 square feet
she is moving into. Scary to consider
that I am not all that far away from a similar dilemma.
