“As long as a journalist tells the truth, in conscience and fairness, it is not his job to worry about consequences. The truth is never as dangerous as a lie in the long run. I truly believe the truth sets men free.” – Ben Bradlee (8/26/1921 – 10/21/2014)

Bernardino Poccetti (8/26/1548 – 10/10/1612)

Born in Florence, he was initially trained as a decorator of facades and ceilings, enrolling in 1570 in the Florentine painters guild for such work, the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno, (Academy of the Arts of Drawing). He is also referred to as: Bernardino Barbatelli or Bernardino delle Grottesche, delle Facciate, or delle Muse. He initially worked in the shop of Michele Tosini, and he participated in the broadly shared decoration of the Chiostro Grande of Santa Maria Novella in 1580s. In 1583–85, he helped decorate panegyric frescoes for the Palazzo Capponi. He also completed frescoes in San Pier Maggiore in San Pierino.

In 1592–93, he worked on frescoes in the Certosa di Galluzzo relating to Life and Death of San Bruno. He painted scenes from the life of founder of the Convent of the Servites for the Annunziata. He painted scenes from the Life of St. Anthony (fresco) for San Marco. He frescoed scenes from the Life of Cosimo I as decoration of great Salon of the Pitti Palace. He also labored for other charterhouses in Pisa and Siena. He also painted frescoes, considered his masterpiece, in the Cappella del Giglio (Cappella Neri, 1599) in Santa Maria Maddalena dei Pazzi.

In his later works, he is considered one of the Florentine reformers—the so-called Counter-Maniera (Counter-Mannerism)—along with Santi di Tito, Domenico Cresti (Il Passignano), Lodovico Cigoli, Jacopo Chimenti da Empoli, Andrea Boscoli, and Gregorio Pagani. Among the painters he trained or influenced was Michelangelo Cinganelli.

Currency Snapshot

I have collected since the election of 2016, a weekly snapshot of the top 20 US trading partners and the currency rates as well as the Dow, S&P and the price of WTI.  I reset every Jan 1st and track from there forward.  It is my goal to include this picture moving forward every week.  So here you go.

This is done without comment or critic.  Just data to make your own conclusions.

Amazon – The jungle not the company

Jair Bolsonars has finally deployed some of his nations military to fight the more than 40,000 fires raging in the Amazon jungle.  Let’s hope it is not too late.

Trump Meetings?

Not sure what to make of this latest piece.  The G7 met to discuss climate change and methods to combat this world wide problem.  The president skipped the meeting and instead said he had meetings with German PM Merkel and Indian PM Modi.  The only problem is they were in the G7 meeting about climate change when he claimed to have met with them.  Parallel universe?  Alternate Time line?  Hogwart’s time turner?  Please let me know what you think cause it has me stumped.

Growing Smaller

My church is running a series called “Growing Smaller”.  This is the second week of our series and perhaps it is why I have gotten back into trying and posting on my blog.  Maybe?  There is so much noise in the world, perhaps being still and not trying to be busy every minute of every day is something to consider.  I find myself turning this idea over and over in my head and it seems to have merit.  Well we will see.

The Sum Up

My niece moved in to Emerson College this weekend for her freshman year.  GO Jilli-bean and have fun. The University of Texas kickoff is 5 days away and I am tickled Orange.  HOOK’EM horns.

That’s all for today sports fans.
