Before we recap the weekend, we have to deal the Parker man and this morning. Up at 6:15 but to an obstinate and evil child. "I am not doing my treatment". "I made a promise to myself I would not do the vest this week" etc. I would be 20 minutes later, before he relented and gave in. But to prove his point he refused to watch either television or use the computer. He sat in his vest and mask, taking his treatment with must anger and determination. I cannot decide if he will take over the world or destroy it. I do know I have to teach him how to manage this anger. It is so much like my own and I don't know how to make him more flexible?
So on with the recap.
Friday night we went to the Freshman Volleyball game at Bowie High. The girls won in 3, 23-25, 25-19, 30-29. It was a nail biter to the end and the girls really came together to win the game. I was very proud of Marietta. She really hit hard in the first game. In the end she felt responsible for hitting the last point out, but I pointed out that only 2 of their 25 came from her mistakes. She takes it to hard when she makes a mistake, instead of getting up to bat again, she backs away from taking the lead. I am hoping with more training and a great season in club she will be willing to try and take on a greater role in team leadership. She is a natural leader in so many ways, but lacks the self confidence.
Saturday I spent with my leg up and resting for Saturday night. My knee is still very banged up and it hurts to move it much. Unfortunately we got to watching the TV series "Jericho" which Marietta, Parker and I are now watching. We ended up viewing 9 of the 28 episodes over the weekend. It is quite entertaining and I like the fact we watch it together. I think I am going to require Parker not to play on the computer when he is watching with us, as it might be contributing to his ill behavior? Wonder if that is true.
On Saturday night we attended the final "Sasser" Halloween party. We missed it last year due to Ted and Diana's wedding. This year we went as Chia pets. Susan has wanted to do this for 5 years and she got her way. I was like a giant green beastie, but she was happy, and I was happy to do it. We took Carole Dale with us, as Craig and Kirby were at the coast with Eric Fowler and his boy. We got home at 1:30 and the kids were still up, the result was we slept in late on Sunday and did not go to church.
Sunday we skipped church. This is 3rd weekend in a row we skipped, and I need to make an effort for next Sunday. It will be hard as the Kansas game is at 6 and I will not get home until midnight or one a.m. again after tailgate breakdown...that said I have a duty to god and my children to attend so I will do my best! Give me strength.
Sunday night Marietta went to see "Footloose" with one of her friends from camp. While this is great and wonderful, we decided that from now on all Sunday movies must start no later than 6 p.m. and she must be in by 9. The 10 o'clock thing just does not work for me.
I will admit, driving her is the only time we really talk. I am worried she is still to much of a pleaser when it comes to both teachers and people. That will take her far in life, but can be a blow to her self worth. It is a hard balance between my two children. One is to rigid and firm in his beliefs, the other to ready to retreat.
Well that was the weekend, I wish is was more exciting, or more trails and tribulations in my life, but there are none. It is a boring little life, and mostly full of the mundane and boring details that make life. I remember a saying that goes vaguely that life is the ugly bits that make it worth living.
Parker is still vesting, and let me tell you it has been "ugly" treatment day. He has stopped the vest no less than 4 times. Complained bitterly about how it hurts, and wasted about 40% of the saline on the top of his head. The mask thing will have to end in the next year or two, as the delivery system is not as efficient as the tube.
We have finally finished vesting, and thrown off the vest and finished yelling at mom and dad. So I am done for this morning. As I said before and will say again "My life so Far".
